Not sure if the first counts as a companion mod, but, my two so far are The Underground by Qarl, and Asgard 3.0 (tribinal version) by Grumpy, rest his soul. I have as fo recently misplaced Atheri for the latter mod, so that kinda sucks. I wish it had a companion retrieval system like Qarl's. I believe you can get both on Morrowind Summit.
Edit: Ah, I was supposed to include a "why" for them, huh? My apologies. Asgard, because it's a wonderfully scripted companion, and the manor itself is amazing (and if you look real close, there is a secret area). The Underground, as obviously, its by Qarl, so naturally it's good, and the places in it are very cool. Also, as I said earlier the companion retreval system implemented in it is a great convenience. I hope Atheri's having fun wherever the heck I left her. VE while not really a companion mod, the work of cortex has truly reinvented the vampiric experience in morrowind.

Constance, without a doubt. That girl is brilliant. Learning about her backstory is... interesting Plus, I left her in Ald'ruhn when I went to Ebonheart, and she found a whole bunch of Marksman equipment while I was gone.
I tried Morgana, but right off the bat, she seemed a little cheat-y to me. Still like her, even if she kept killing me with atronachs >:( -------------------- For once the portals are open, who shall shut them upon the rising tide? CM partners 2.8...mainly because of it's versatility...and because it gives me a wide range of characters to adjust to my own taste. However...Emma, Grumpy, Baratheon79, Korana, Mentalelf, and others have all released fine companion mods that I've used and enjoyed.
edit...Vampire embrace enables you to turn any NPC in the game into a companion. Also forgot to mention Morrowind comes alive which provides dozens as well. CM-Partners is my favorite, easy to customize for me.
Nevena's Assistants is nice for when I have a home. Nevena's Courtiers is just fun to have around. The Underground had the excellent quest and rewards plus I loved the companion's attitudes. Am just trying Constance, looking forward to her a great deal. |

Hey thanks Aulakauss and Asha! No one ever mentions The Underground companions in any of these favorite-companion-mods threads. Look for more fun new features in the up-coming release like:
- New quests and items they need retrieving after you've finished the mod's main quest. They'll start to bug you about doing things for them after a random amount of time. - Emma and I will be working on making them interactive with each other. Look for Synda not likeing you hanging out too much with Constance or Laura and perhaps saying some off-color comments to them (parental discression is advised. ) Or possibly Johnny hitting on one of them occasionally! - New spell to heal your entire party at one time. shown here -------------------- |

Yeah, Witchgirl. I haven't gotten around to the quest yet but straight away, using her as a companion seemed like a cheat. She could summon health and magicka potions, and armorer equipment, and who knows what else, out of seemingly nowhere, and cure herself with them to boot.
Although I do like her as a person. I tell her DO NOT SUMMON ATRONACHS... and she says awww, can I summon little tiny skeletons instead? Next fight... yup, she summoned a skeleton. I haven't laughed so hard in a long time. Three battles later, she summoned another atronach and killed both me and Constance >:( -------------------- For once the portals are open, who shall shut them upon the rising tide? Morgana was fun!
I forgot to mention the MWSE demo I used before aswell. It allowed me to drag any npc along with me. They'd use their idle chats at some of the funniest moments. That's something I like about some npc companions, if they have some idle chats. cm-companions don't do that, it would be excellent if they had things to say. It's one reason I'm trying out Constance, I'm hoping she seems interesting in that way. Johnny, from The Underground cracked me up the first time he muttered about being hungry from behind. |

Companions to me equals food or fodder. The "Best" companion mod I used was Dwemer Centurion Construction, were if they "died" meaning broke down, I could just repair them, and they were good as new.

My favourites are Emmas companions. Interesting background story, some quests and state of the art companion features. Laura has been my all-time favourite, always installed. Constance is too new to call her "always installed", but I'm convinced she will make it on that list. Both of them have the advantage you can get them at level 1. As I like to start over more occasionally, that's a big bonus. The Lokken guys are good, too, but Lokken isn't something for a beginner character.
Witchgirl is fun, but I found her quite useless in combat, as the AI cannot handle mages properly. Laura (warrior) and Constance (marksman) are somewhat easier for the AI to handle. Lost Heir comes with a couple of companions and good quests, but I usually ignore the mainquest meanwhile, so that rules out this mod for regular usage. Good non-Emma companions are the beefed-up Shock Centurion for Telvanni members by Vvorda, which offers a bit of a difference to the usual humanoid companions and your buddy in Qarls Underground, but that mod isn't for low-level characters and it requires some serious playing time first. Not to ignore Vampire Embrace, not a companion mod by itself but can turn every vanilla NPC into one. Not everybodys piece of cake, though. Finally, got one simple self-made companion, based on Grumpys Companion v3.1 template. A Khajiit thief, as most companion mods out there sadly neglect the cats. Companions I tried but didn't like: MCA and CM_Partners. (MCA is a great mod, but it's emphasis isn't really companions.) |

My personal favorite is Abigail's Petshop. It's the only companion I've had (thus far) that I haven't been able to loose yet. Even while navigating through complex interiors, my companion is always right behind me. The levelling up system is another great feature. I almost never play without this mod.

Well, I'll tell you.
My favourite Companion isn't one of the ones I created, [SHAMELESS PLUG] although I and others enjoy them, and they are available through the link in my sig, courtesy of Emma [/SHAMELESS PLUG]. Nor was it created by my dear friend Emma, although her work is always beyond stellar. Nor by the incomparable Grumpy, God rest his soul. Nor by the eternally ingenious Baratheon79. My favourite Companion mod is Slave Warrior Jessica, by UlfGeir. Why, you ask? Because that was the mod that inspired us to create Companions. UlfGeir added many great features on which the modern Companion mods are based. Since Jessica came out, most other Companion mods have used features from her, or been inspired by her. She is truly a classic. Since Jessica was released before Tribunal, she doesn't have Companion Share, nor does she warp. But she did foreshadow both of those developments. While she doesn't have warping, it was the speed boost code that UlfGeir wrote for her which inspired Grumpy and others to improve Companion following further by developing warping to the level at which it exists today. And that same speed boost (or one of its variants) is still present in modern Companion mods. While she doesn't have Companion Share, she had a system to change clothes and equip/unequip/repair armour and weapons, which allowed her gear to be maintained in working order and permitted her a variety of "looks". UlfGeir created her "using stone knives and bear skins" as Mr. Spock once said. Even without the advanced scripting features of the expansions, the great UlfGeir worked an elegant wonder of functional and efficient design in his Companion, and her "descendants" all owe a debt to Jessica and her creator. That's why she will always hold a special place in my gaming and modding heart. -------------------- "Companions cannot live by script alone" - GRUMPY (March 18, 1950 - June 17, 2005)

My favourites are Constance by Emma/Grumpy and Johnny by Qarl. Why? Because they have gusto, gumption and spirit, by golly!
They kick butt, and will go upside your head at the drop of a hat - but more than that, they make me laugh out loud. -------------------- Guys, it's only fan-fiction for computers.

I also use CM Partners most, though I haven't upgraded to 2.8 because I don't want to loose my customizations. I also have both Nevena's Assistants and Courtiers, but I haven't actually employed their services yet. I admired the work Emma put into Laura, but honestly, if I want to be nagged all I have to do is go into the livingroom and my lovely wife will happily comply. Right after she made me go collect flowers for a gift, I dumped her right out of my game. (Laura, not my wife.) Grumpy's Atheri is a favorite, though a little overpowered, but Asgard conflicts with Marc's Mori Estate so I don't use it right now. I would like to try Constance, but I'm worried about the my personality differences with Laura and I'm not fond of her face . . . I like Emma's, Grumpy's, And Baratheon's work. And I have quite a few companions, mostly to model clothing, but largely for the friendly atmosphere. I must say though, nothing, not even Constance, beats out having a pet wolf to follow you.

I haven't tried many companion mods. Mostly due to the fact once I got recall and mark, getting around was much less of a hassle than walking and not alot of companions can meet you places.
Though I have always used Spot, Little Hazel and Atheri. I have recently taking a liking to Beryl aswell.. I guess those can fall under my favorites at the moment until I've tried out more companion mods . -------------------- "Death stands above me, whispering low

Yes, companion teleport (rather, lack of) can be a real pain. Fortunately a couple of companions (all Emmas I think) support some sort of teleportation out of the box.
For less full-blown companions there is a nifty little mod: ImprovedTeleport. It's similar to MultiMark (if unfamiliar, allows to use several mark spots) but also supports companions. They follow you after recall/intervention and you can teleport them to you anytime. Extremely nifty. One of the best "useful utility mods" recently released in my opinion. |

Improved Teleport is a godsend for anyone running companion mods. Constance and her amulet are pretty much dandy as it is, but this helps with others (and things like recalling to interiors, which I love).
